The time has arrived for Scouts BSA Troop 248 for Girls to begin! We invite all girls age 11 (or in 5th grade) through 17 and a parent or guardian to attend one of our Welcome Parties from 10-11 AM on January 12 or 19 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 2300 Cathedral Avenue in Washington, DC (just off Connecticut and between the Woodley Park Station and the National Zoo).
Come and meet some of our girl members and our women and men Scoutmasters who will advise you and the other members on how to be a leader. We have 18 women and men volunteer leaders, seven of whom are on the Scoutmasters Staff. There will be tables set up with information and displays on camping and hiking – as well as information where we will be going to summer camp and a special visit to the International Scout Jamboree (held this year in nearby West Virginia). One of our Scoutmasters will share information with you on how outstanding women leaders in business, government, military, social, and educational fields will visit to meet and talk with you.
Scouts BSA is the program formerly called “Boy Scouts” implemented in an all-girl environment. Our Scouts BSA Troop for Girls will be all-girl and not co-ed. Girls will elect their own leaders and lead the organization with adult advice. Each girl will be in an 8-girl “patrol with her friends and some new friends to do things together. We will spend a lot of time in the outdoors and will have an outdoor trip or hike each month. The entire Troop will attend a week of residential summer camp.
Here is a flyer about our welcome parties that you can print out and give to your friends.
We hope to see you – and make sure to bring along a friend or two that might be interested!
Sincerely,
Craig Burkhardt
Scoutmaster
