Join Online and Attend an Upcoming Troop Meeting
There is no residency requirement to join Troop 248. We are centrally located to members who live in DC, Maryland, and Virginia
Troop 248 is open to:
1) Girls who are between ages of 11 – 17.
2) Girls who are at least 10 years old, currently in the fifth grade, and register on or after March 1st.
3) Girls who are at least 10 years old who have earned the Arrow of Light Award as a Cub Scout.
If you are new to scouting, when you are ready to join the Troop, your parent or guardian and you can fill out the Membership Application. You can also use a paper form available at any Troop Meeting.
If you are currently a Cub Scout with a Webelos or AOL den, talk to your Den Leader or contact us by email about “Crossing Over” or “Bridging Over” the troop. This is a graduation ceremony from Cub Scouts to Scouts BSA. Crossing Over typically happens in late winter/early spring after you complete your rank so you can sign up for summer camp, but it can take place at other times. You do not need to fill out the online application and you will not need to pay the Scouting America fees until your annual renewal.
If you want to visit first, any girl with at least one of her parents or a guardian can show up at any of our upcoming Troop meetings to learn about us. Please see our meeting and activity schedule.
We will explain our Scouts BSA Troop 248 for Girls program and sign-up new members — and we have all the forms necessary. We will also discuss information posted on our website regarding how and where to obtain the required Scout uniforms and necessary personal equipment. We will explain applicable dues, and activity fees, including the dues your parents will be asked to pay. Our fees cover all of your participation costs, so we do not engage in any product sales (cookies, popcorn, etc.). There is a 50% dues discount for each additional girl in the same immediate family.
All Souls Episcopal Church is located at 2300 Cathedral Ave., NW, Washington, DC. That is just off Connecticut Ave. between the Woodley Park Metro station and the National Zoo. The church is easy to drive to and has parking. You can easily take the Metro to the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan Station from anywhere in the City. And, the L1 and L2 Metrobus stops very close to All Souls. Click here for a link to driving and public transportation directions.
The Metro and Metrobus are free for any DC girl who uses her District of Columbia Metro school pass. If there are girls taking the Metro or Metrobus from the same areas, we will organize groups of girls to travel together. The area around All Souls is very safe and very friendly!
Everyone is welcome to join the BSA. Find out more here.
Scouting is volunteer-run so parents and other Scouters, if they wish, will be welcomed into the program as volunteers.
